Can you? Given that every Christian is still a sinner, it’s definitely possible for a Christian to be a racist; rememants of the old self.
Should a Christian be a racist, definitely not! But why the question?
The reason for the question: one of my friends claims that he is a Chritsian, and I believe him. Yet, certian experiences in his life has made him racist. It just made me wonder if it is possible to be Christian and racist at the same time.
Talked about something similar in class today. What do we do with older people in our communities, people for whom the church thaught that it’s OK to be a rasicts. Now suddenly the church says something different?
Those who accept the reformed principle of sola fidei, sola gratia (latin for “only faith, only grace”), would have to say that through grace and faith we are Christians, whether we are racists or not.
On the other hand. If you follow the emerging conversation you will more and more hear people saying that we need to remember the importance of living differently as Christians, these people don’t wanna send everyone that doesn’t comply to there rules to hell, but they do say that we need to take seriously the fact that the Bible ask of Christians to live differently. But as I understand proponents of this conversation, they also recognize that we are on a journey, and therefore on process of being cleansed of sin, becoming more and more like God.
Volgens my : nee. Naasteliefde is die grootste gebod, so dis lynreg teen wat ‘n Christen is. Lees bietjie die Orwell quote wat ek hier aangehaal het. Ek stem nogal saam daarmee, ons het almal ingeboude vooroordele, maar wat jy daarmee maak is wat jou ‘n rasis maak of nie. Net soos mens ander drange het wat jy moet beheer of oorkom.
Ek haat rassisme. Christene moet nie haat nie…
